RELEASED THIS WEEK: Macy - “Please keep talking
Since MACY’s 2020 debut, she has been making her way up in the world - calling herself a ‘Pop girly’ likely a reference to the famous group of women currently in popular music such as Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan. You can really see this in her feminine and nostalgic aesthetic. From South Wales, MACY started by writing and recording her music in her bedroom and has slowly made a name for herself.
“Please Keep Talking” is a fun, catchy and sarcastic ode to those people that just won’t stop talking (that feels personal.) The verses are mostly spoken, feeling like a conversation and the choruses are poppy, catchy and melodic.
There’s been a bit of a trend recently with songs that incorporate speaking. Not rap or spoken word, more of a conversation. I think in this particular case it’s used intentionally to fit the conversational vibe of the song and of course the themes in the words. The lyrics are witty and relatable and it’s accessorised with MACY’s twinkly pop vocals.
“Please keep talking” is a testament to MACY’s talent and humour, being able to come out with such a strong single with the limited resources and opportunities in her remote home town. She believes in supporting young artists and supporting local spaces, regularly returning to do talks and performances.
With a few more years, perhaps we will see MACY up there with some of our major pop girls.
