RELEASED THIS WEEK: Sylvaner - “Plastic Love”

Hear me out here, ‘Plastic love’ as a song needs a few listens before you can truly appreciate it. The first listen, though I did think it was a good song, wasn’t as interesting as the second or third listens. It’s got so many hidden attributes and qualities that you start to slowly notice. The vibe changes depending on the lens that you view the song with, I think it has the potential to be a sad ballad, a dance song, a sultry and seductive listen or a chill study song. Which is genuinely so interesting from a piece of music, I've never heard that before. The song, inspired by Chicago house, talks about how it’s too frightening to let in real, genuine love so the author only allows shallow or ‘Plastic Love’ because they still desire human connection. Its sound is trance-like and hypnotising with a ticking beat, drawn out vocals and electronic flourishes. The guitar solo towards the end completes the listening experience, completely encapsulating the audience in a musical embrace.

Sylvaner is Los Angeles born and raised on grew up on his father’s record collections. Said father ran several record stores, meaning the house would be constantly flooded with music. It’s a no brainer that Sylvaner would grow up to love music and use it as his way of expression. He released his first single at the end of last year and has quickly followed it up with ‘Plastic love’ just a few months later. I’ll be on the look out for Sylvaner and I am excited to see what he does next and how both his music and story processes. Just like the German wine, Sylvaner is crisp, refreshing and totally underrated.
