Cormac - The story of the public finding him before he found himself
Cormac Thompson began making music at the age of 11 when he signed a one album deal with Decca. Since then, he has been regarded as a ‘Child Prodigy’ making covers with a voice described as ‘angelic’ and even gaining 4 ‘Yes’’ from the judges of Britain’s Got Talent when he made an appearance at 12 years old.
His voice has always been operatic, using a high falsetto that he was painfully aware would become impossible as he grew. Cormac was always wise for his age, stating in his short film Cormac - Looking Back | Early Years that ‘I loved singing in my treble, but this voice is only mine to borrow for a short period of time. I’ll be both sad to lose it and grateful for what I had and I’ll look forward to whatever it becomes.’
January 2026, as Cormac is now 16 (turning 17 this March,) we are starting to see the truth of where his new voice will take him. Artists in the public media wanting to change their style and sound is a tale as old as time. Famous singer Taylor Swift even made an entire tour based on her changing identity. There have been child stars and actors that get thrown into the media, good or bad, because of drastic changes in their music, style and aesthetic. For Cormac, not only did he have to deal with the natural mental and emotional changes of aging but he had drastic physical changes to tackle, including his voice.
Now, Cormac wants to stray from his classical musical vibratos and unoriginal covers and create his own sound. On the 9th of January, Cormac teased his new sound with a self aware and authentic short film explaining his unique story and what’s next for him. He titles it ‘Finding my sound’ - it details how, at his young age, he’s trying to figure himself out through his music. He knows that, already being in the public eye, he might struggle with this as people expect constant perfection. He states ‘I started singing before I even really knew who I was.’
This real and authentic vulnerability is refreshing in a world of perfectly fabricated media teams. Cormac is hyperaware of his age and how much he has to learn and grow yet his passion for music overpowers it all. When hearing his story, it may be easy to disregard him as ‘Just a child’ - but children are the future of our media. Talent of all ages deserves support and recognition. Children should be seen AND heard.
Cormac’s new single ‘Defenceless’ released on the 16th of January with accompanying music video. It’s a raw and emotional piece where you can hear the fear and uncertainty in his voice. It mirrors the story he tells in his short film about being unsure what’s next for him in his music career, that he has to lose his defences when he writes and creates the thing he’s so passionate about. The soft guitar backing opens into an inspiring chorus. It’s similar, in that sense, to the song he sang on Britain’s Got Talent - “Run” by Snow Patrol.

‘Defenceless’ is Cormac’s headstart into what is likely a long journey for him - finding himself, his sound and his goals. It’s clear from both the song and the story that a love of singing and music will be at the heart of everything he does going forward. It’s exciting getting to feel like we’re witnessing the complete origin of something that could be really special. Keep it up Cormac.
