RELEASED TODAY: Lecx Stacy - “With You, I’d Be Closer To God”

There’s a certain way of making a song, in a genre designed for commercial mainstream, that still swerves it into the category of “Alternative.” Lecx Stacy makes an electronic dance tune that’s packed with intrigue and emotion.

Lecx Stacy is a first-generation Filipino American, who currently resides in Los Angeles. His brother, who taught him how to make beats, unfortunately passed away in his teen years. Lecx holds onto his brother in his music, where you can hear traces of grief and the lessons of a kind and caring big brother. Even the equipment he uses is passed on from his older sibling.

Lexc’s work aims to be psychological. The way I’d describe my own reaction to it is very similar to analogue horror. There’s something strange and eerie but also comforting and nostalgic. It makes you feel warm and cold at the same time. It’s clear that Lexc creates music with art in mind, he’ll seem aware of what feeling he wants to create before making a song.

“With You, I’d Be Closer To God” talks about Stacy’s newfound connection with religion and devotion to Catholicism. The glitching opening of the song mixed with a smooth guitar creates an uncertain feeling, structured vs struggling. This glitching sound follows the pounding undercurrent of the bass as Stacy’s whispering and whimpering vocals sing a haunting melody.

This glitching sound feels like a butterfly bouncing around the walls of your brain that the beat is trying to catch. It all builds towards the last moments of the track where it’s a vibrant and dancing drop. It’s the type of electronic bridge that makes me want to close my eyes and feel it instead of simply listen to it.

Despite how dancy the song feels, there’s a heartbreaking edge to it that feels vulnerable and in pain. It rounds the song completely is alt-electronic. If you love songs like “Not In Love (feat. Robert Smith) [Radio Version]” by Crystal Castles, you’ll love “With You, I’d be Closer To God.”

Keep a look out for Lecx and his upcoming music.
